Four voltage levels of input and output wiring may be used with the unit:

Use of Shielded Cable:
  • All analogue signals must use shielded cable
  • This will help eliminate electrical noise induction on the wires
  • Connection lead length must be kept as short as possible keeping the wires protected by the shielding

  • The preferred grounding location is at the sensor, transmitter or transducer

Noise Suppression at Source:
  • Usually when good wiring practices are followed, no further noise protection is necessary
  • Sometimes in severe electrical environments, the amount of noise is so great that it has to be suppressed at source
  • Many manufacturers of relays, contactors etc supply ’surge suppressors’ which mount on the noise source

Inductive coils:
  • MOVs are recommended for transient suppression in inductive coils, connected in parallel and as close as possible to the coil

Microprocessor controller, format 48x48 (1/16 DIN) manufactured using SMT. Provides a complete operator interface protected by a Lexan membrane that ensures level IP65 faceplate protection. It has 4 keys, two green LED displays, each with 4 digits, 4 red signal LED’s for the 4 logic or relay outputs, and 3 other programmable LED’s to signal the various operational states of the instrument. The main input for process variable is universal, and many types of signals can be connected: Thermocouples, resistance thermometers, thermistors, normalized linear inputs, all with possibility of custom linearization using the faceplate keys. The type of input is selected from the faceplate keys no external shunts are required. A second auxiliary analog input from the current transformer is also available. Analog Inputs:

  • The UDC2500 has two analog inputs with a typical accuracy of ±0.25% of full-scale input and a typical resolution of 16 bits
  • Both analog inputs are sampled six times per second (every166 ms)
  • The first input is a low-level type which accepts thermocouple, RTD, ma, mV and voltage types
  • The second input is a high level type and can be used as a remote setpoint, for data acquisition or as a parameter to be alarmed on
  • This input accepts ranges 0-5V, 1-5V, 0-2V, 0-20mA or 4-20mA
  • Cold junction compensation is provided for thermocouple type inputs
  • Upscale or downscale sensor break protection is keyboard configurable
  • A configurable digital filter of 0 to 120 seconds provides input signal damping
  • All input types are configurable via the keyboard, there are no internal jumpers or switches
  • The two inputs are isolated from all other inputs and outputs, but not from each other


Thermocouple Health:

  • In addition to the standard configurable upscale, downscale or failsafe output burnout selections
  • The condition of the thermocouple can be monitored to determine if it is good, failing or in danger of imminent failure.


Communications:

  • A communications link is provided between the UDC2500 and a host computer or PLC via the RS422/485
  • Modbus® RTU or Ethernet TCP/IP communications option.

Application flexibility is assured by the universal analog inputs, universal AC power supply, two digital inputs, a maximum of five analog and digital outputs, RS422/485 Modbus RTU or Ethernet 10Base-T TCP/IP communication protocols, simple configuration plus total field upgrade capability for any optional feature.

Math Functions:
  • Algorithm-A pre-configured algorithm is available for easy
  • implementation.
  • This includes the capability of using a Ratio and Bias with any input.
  • You can select from the following menu: Feedforward Summer-Uses either input, followed by a Ratio/Bias calculation, summed directly with the computed PID output value to provide a resultant output to the final control element (standard feature).
  • Weighted Average Computes the weighted average of a PV or SP for the control algorithm from two inputs (standard feature)
  • Feedforward Multiplier-Uses any input, multiplied by the calculated PID output to provide a resultant output which is sent to the final control element (standard feature).
  • Summer/Subtractor-Will add or subtract inputs with the result used as the derived PV
  • Multiplier/Divider-Uses the analog inputs to calculate a derived PV
  • Available with or without Square Root
  • Input High/Low Select-Specifies the PV input as the higher or lower of the two inputs
